case in point

Two weeks ago we were playing ultimate and one of the players on the opposite team dove into the ground on purpose (this is common) and injured his back (this is less common). He lay there for a few minutes as people crowded around, but was able to get up and walk away. Later he started feeling a lot of pain and an ambulance was called. When it arrived, after an hour or so (this is in one of the richest areas of the country), a group was gathered around jovially making fun of him. As he was carried away on a stretcher they gave him high fives and raucously sang an old standard for wakes.
