proof

In living fujifilm color --proof that I am actually here, and not just in a basement somewhere lying about the heat. Ok I could have pulled these from random site, but I didn't.

Sorry I haven't bothered to figure out posting images directly here. Anyway, the one picture is from off the coast the second (of a total of two) days we went to the beach. We hired a boat and and got to look at some coral reefs, which was fantastic even though there was only one snorkle for five people.

Let me take this moment to interject a stastic from the book I just finished, Heat, by George Monbiot (read it now), which states that with a two degree rise in global temperature, 97% of coral reefs will die out. A lot of other very bad things will happen as well. His conclusion is that we need a 90% reduction in global carbon emmissions in order to prevent that two degree rise.

The second picture is a bunch of neighborhood kids hanging on a branch by the river.

first try not a charm

I'm trying to upload some pictures but it's not working so well. Sorry. Maybe next time.

I find out next week where I'll be going for my permanent site, which is exciting.

Hope everyone's lives are going well! I am of course feeling out of the loop like never before.

ten minutes

Sorry, no pictures yet. I've taken some, but I didn't bring my camera with me to the city to upload them. I do have a nice video of a big frog jumping around eating bugs on our front patio, and one of the spectacular view from the top of Mt. Samat. And rest assured there are plenty of shots of cute brown kids and palm trees.

Anyhow, I'm off to church for the first time, or should I say Mass. The church is quite an institution here, although basketball seems to be winning over the younger generation.
